Launchpad for Literacy

Kirstie Page qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in 1996. After working in Mainstream Paediatrics, specialising in working with Parents and in the Early Years, Kirstie retrained as a teacher in 2004. Kirstie taught within KS1 and the EYFS, before shifting her focus to the training and support of other practitioners, whilst continuing to work ‘hands-on’ within schools and settings. Launchpad for Literacy has evolved from real-life issues and concerns in response to the needs of practitioners and children.

Launchpad for Literacy has evolved over the years, being influenced by many children and Kirstie’s working relationships with practitioners. Those who have shared their thoughts, ideas, experiences and those who had a go and tried things out, are too numerous to mention and have been thanked in person. However, special thanks must be given to Ann Foster, a former Literacy Consultant, without whom, Launchpad for Literacy would not exist. Special thanks also need to be given to Wendy Colbourne, Laura Baddiley and staff from Harrington Nursery School, who embraced Launchpad for Literacy within their own setting, whilst also ‘spreading the word’ across Derby City. Final, special thanks need to be given to Diane Jeffries, Director of Early Years for Wise Academies, who saw the potential of Launchpad for Literacy many years ago. More recently, she has supported its progression into the world of data to support the needs of Leaders within the current education climate.
